That was some race! Thanks to all the volunteers. Can't say it enough, there would be no race without you. Thanks to all the runners too, you guys helped make it a great event and some you even took the time and effort to encourage others.
I participated in the 100. I had no idea it would be that tough. I'm quite familiar with the area. I train and race here all the time. I've even led running groups out there. This course however, wow, humbling. I'll never look at Pirates Cove the same way again. Haha, good times.
Thanks most of all for PCTR for organizing the race.

Agreed! A huuuuuge thanks to Wendell and Sarah for starting what can only become a Bay Area classic. I don't know if any of us can walk away from that course and not wonder if we can't do better next time...
Also a huge thanks to all the volunteers, aid station folks, course markers, and others who helped make the race possible! In particular, thanks to:
1) The woman at Muir Beach who made the home-made energy bars (YUM!) 2) Stan Jensen for cracking a joke and making me laugh at mile 91 when I was about to fall apart 3) The Rodeo Valley aid station helper who peeled my banana for me at 10pm
You all are great!!

Right - a big thank you to Sarah & Wendell and all the volunteers. You people made it far too easy to just hang out at the aids stations and yap the night away This was probably as pleasant an introduction to the 100m distance as is possible - felt like everybody was family!

My congratulations to everyone who completed 100 miles on that very difficult course. You should take pride in one heck of an accomplishment. 50 miles was plenty for me. I don't want to see those hills between Muir Beach and Tennessee Valley anytime soon.
Thanks very much to the aid station volunteers, especially those who endured the yellow jackets at Tennessee Valley. None of us would have made it far without you.

I really can't wait for the Headlands Hundred! In fact, I even dreamt about it this past weekend...
My dream had everything, a beautiful course on a day (and night) with perfect weather, a race where I seemed to either know or recognize just about every other runner, amazing aid stations staffed with incredibly supportive volunteers who always seemed to have just what I needed amongst the myriad of tasty goodies, and a super-well organized event run by a couple of RDs who are the very best in the business. It really was one awesome dream. Even the little mini nightmare I had in the middle where I turned the wrong way and found myself at the bottom of the Pirate's Cove stairs instead of at the Muir Beach aid station turned out simply drive me to push harder and make it back to Rodeo Beach feeling fired up and hyperactive at 3am, ready to start my final lap. That's how I know it was a dream. There's no way, in a reality, after running 100 miles (or 102 miles in my case), I could possibly have finished feeling as wonderful as I did coming across the finish line on Sunday morning. Yep, it was definitely a dream!
The only thing is that I can't seem to explain how I feel now. I mean, I definitely remember waking up Sunday evening and hobbling around in pretty bad shape, but for some reason I am actually able to walk around with full mobility today. The only explanation is that I must still be dreaming...

How come no one ever thanks Aaron for the great job he does?

Here’s a great big THANK YOU to Aaron, and Sarah and Wendell, and the rest of the PCTR extended family of runners and volunteers. Saturday was an absolutely unforgettable, breathtakingly scenic, and occasionally quite painful day. The support and the chow at the aid stations was fabulous, got to hang out with a lot of runners I’d not met before, marveled at some of the most stunningly gorgeous views on the planet, and came home filthy and exhausted. What a perfect day.
Not sure how you’re going to improve it next year, but I’m sure you’ll find a way.
Thanks so much to all involved.
