I think you misunderstood. In Pirates Cove you go up the hill we descend. The difference is that some of the paved road is replaced by trails (the first part). Also, are you signing up for Javelina or not? Oh, right...I remember that now. I think it is actually part of the Coastal Trail there. However, I still think the backhoe is a better idea. It would help out Miwok as well. As for Javelina...I'm not deciding just yet (hey, I just noticed how swollen my ankles still are last night!). However, there is a thread about this on the runner's world forums where Harry threatened to sign up. That would probably put me over the top ;D forums.runnersworld.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/698106477/m/7971052033

Well I'm gonna sign up. Even if it's really insane in my case (1 week after SD). But hey, it'll be a huge party. I'm trying to get Jochen to sign up as well - he's thinking about it... Dude. You got an INFINITE amount of time before Javelina. I'm not asking you to sign up for a hundred within the next 10 days! So what are you waiting for? I toughed out headlands because you threatened me you'd quit if I'd quit. You basically owe me one. HA! Beat

you are EVIL, Beat!
as for the course - I agree with everybody that 3 times Pirate's cove shouldn't be eliminated - as said it's the part that gives the HH the unique touch. I'm all for dumping as much road as possible (and maybe that cantered 2 inch wide single track to Bolinas ridge - that sucked!)
As for Javelina: I'd love to go. I'm pretty much recovered without soreness, blisters or any other pains, but it'll have to be Martina's decision. She's put up with a lot of standing and waiting around this year.

Harry: few options. a) bring Martina, get Steve to bring his better half, they go have fun in Scottsdale while we suffer. I hear they have excellent spas out there ... b) don't bring better half, do it by yourself (at Javelina you don't really need a crew). They have great spas here, too ... in either case, get something nice for her I'm counting on you. It'll be huge! At Javelina, because you do the loops in alternating directions, you keep seeing each other. It's a ton of fun! Now lets get the other guys in this. Norbert? Are you reading this? !!! Beat

Looks like this is at least 4 good reasons (virgin, slowpoke, goof-off, and wimped out) to sign up My app is in the mail. Yeah. You guys are no fun! Beat

Did the Headlands photos get posted. I can't remember where they would normally be posted.

Thanks to all of the volunteers. That slice of grilled steak in the middle of the night was a real boost! What a tough course! This was not only my first 100 race but it was also one of the toughest courses that I've ever run. Each time we climbed out of Muir beach my energy level dropped noticeably. Usually I feel like I finish these long races on my own terms, at my own pace. In this case I was just hanging in there from mile 75 until about mile 96. Giving the runners a nice view of the finish line from a mile out was an awesome bit of course design. Anyway, it was an amazing experience, one that I'll repeat next year, and a great way to spend my birthday (since the race took me about 27 and a quarter hours to finish I ended up crossing the line at around the time I was born). Many thanks to everyone I ran with, all of the volunteers and also to Sarah and Wendell.

Happy belated birthday - a great way to celebrate!
Beat, my girlfriend isn't the spa type. The problem is that there's no 50k or shorter option to run for her at Javelina so she'd be stuck with crewing and pacing again. Besides, she's considering Marine Corps Marathon, which is the same weekend. So we'll see. Maybe I'll have to go by myself.

There's a 100k option as well, btw ... very doable.

Grilled steak? What grilled steak? Sounds like I missed out on some good food at HH.
