Hey guys, I have a question. We are running our first 50 miler first weekend of November(Helen Klein) and I am going back and forth between how long our last long run should be. 35 miles or 40 miles? We have had a decent amount of time on our feet runs and 25+ mile runs and such but our last long run is coming up soon and I dont know how long is too long. I am looking for opinions and what you all did or do now. Thanks -----Michelle

Our first ultra (back before you were born, I think, Michelle ) was a trail 50-miler. Up until that time, we had run lots of road marathons, but our only trail runs were one or two, 25-mile runs. Personally, I wouldn't do more than 50 Km as a last long run for a 50-miler. Sarah

My longest run was a 50k before my first 50M. In fact, I did Mt.Diablo 50k before the TRT50. That's actually more than a 50k ;D Norbert

Yeah, I think Mt. Diablo 50 Km should always be written with an exclamation point - like, "Mt. Diablo 50 Km!"...like that.
What do you think, Norbert?

ultra girl, good question These answers are reassuring to me too, as my first 50 miler is coming up as well! Glad to hear 50k is a good last long distance!

this week I am only managing to get in 30+(maybe 33) weekly miles in. I cut my long run out this weekend. I am so tired and I just feel run down. Its been crazy busy at work and I am on my feet from 7am-9pm with work and running and I think it has caught up with me.
I know its good to step back when feeling run down to avoid injury or getting sick, but its hard for me to do that. I am doing it though. Today I am just going to go run with no inteneded miles to "reach" it may be a short run or longer run, who knows...sometimes I just want to run and not worry about training for this 50... does that make sense.
I worry I wont be ready ...I know we will be, but I am getting nervous I guess. Next weekend is abck to the longggggggggggg runs...right now I just dont have it in me.
