The Calif Parks reservation system shows BIg Basin campsites all reserved. Is there any group campground or other space set aside so people could camp there for the race on Sep 16th? Some parks let you stay overnight in a self-contained vehicle in a day use area, but I couldn’t find out if Big Basin does.

Big Basin Redwood SP is very popular and campsites are sold out many months in advance - including group sites. I don't know of self-contained vehicle areas. Nearby Henry Cowell Redwoods SP is probably sold out. You may want to check: Saratoga Springs www.saratoga-springs.com/camping/22801 Big Basin Way Saratoga, CA 95070 (408) 867-9999 Distance: 20 Miles Wendell (PCTR)

Hey S+W -- Luis and I are planning a little duathlon on Big Basin weekend. We're hoping to ride our bikes about 30mi to the race start, then run the 25k (I know, I know, only 25k...) and then bike back to where we've parked a car. Do you know whether there'll be any good spot for us to lock our bikes? We're not really familiar with the park... Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Janet,
That's great! Yes, you can lock your bikes at the Start/Finish. See you then!

Here are a couple RV parks just outside Felton that you could try for camping the weekend of BC. Felton is closer than Saratoga Springs. There is also a motel on Hwy. 9 in Ben Lomond and I can't recall the name of it right now but I'll post it later if I happen to remember.
River Grove Resort - 831-724-1116 Cotillion Gardens RV Park - 831-335-7669 Smithwoods RV Park - 831-335-4321
I don't think Smithwoods allows tents, but I think the others do. You can try a web search for each specifically for additional info.
