We've heard from Vasque that they're going to be discontinuing the Amp - my favorite shoe!  If there are Amp-wearers among you out there, you may want to order an extra pair or two before too long - they'll only be available 'til Vasque sells through what's already made. We have some sizes in stock currently, and are happy to order what we don't have - we typically receive them from Vasque in MN in less than a week. Just order through our online store and either have them shipped to you or pick them up at an event. Sarah (who has bought herself enough pairs to last through 2010...  ) |

On another Vasque note, has anyone tried the new Blur yet? I run in the 2007 model. That one had a very snug fit (I usually add a 1/2 size to the road runner shoe size) so I had to go one size higher ( there are no 1/2 sizes beyond 12)... Is the new one different?  Thanks Norbert |

GREAT to see you yesterday - good job out there!!
I've just written our Vasque rep to see if they have any update on the new Blur as far as both sizing and availability date.
I'll let you know what I hear.

I just heard back from our rep - the only changes to the Blur were cosmetic/color changes. There were no structural changes to the Blur for 2008, so the fit won't change.

I will definitely look for an alternative to the Blur, but I'm really happy with the stability and grip that this shoe has. Not one blister after the gruel 50k at Carmel Valley!

How come you're changing shoes - because they don't make a 12 1/2?

Correct! That's why I have to wear 2 pairs of socks.
Size 12 was perfect for my old trail shoe (Asics).
I heard Roy was running in his brand new Amps yesterday... I should have tried some of those too...

And just one more question, since I'm grilling you - why do you object to wearing two pairs of socks? Are they super-thick socks? Lots of us wear two pairs of socks when we run ultras, and if you can run long in a pair of shoes and two pairs of socks, I'm not sure where the problem is.
Also, and I hate to tell you, but our feet have gotten bigger since we started running ultras - like, over a size bigger for both Wendell and me! The same could be happening to you.
I think that, whenever one finds a shoe (brand and/or model) that works well, you shouldn't switch unless you have to. If the Asics worked the best for you for ultras, then I would go back to those. If the Blur with two 'normal thickness' pairs of socks are better, since you ran a tough, varied course with 8,000+ elevation gain and loss without any issues, then I would stick with those.

I didn't. I bought the successor model with the same size but the fit was different. I don't like the new Trail Sensor.
why do you object to wearing two pairs of socks?
I don't object. I find it a good thing. One thinner pair, one thicker.
It's amazing how robust the Blur is. All those miles and no visible wear. The Asics were "kaputt" much earlier...

If you love it, perhaps the light I'm shining in your eyes isn't bright enough. Here, let me adjust it...
Now, what do you mean when you say "I will definitely look for an alternative to the Blur"?
Seriously, if it's working well for you with two pairs of socks and you can run up and down those hills at Carmel Valley for 50 Km without problems, do you need an alternative?

Hi Sarah,
the problem is the snug fit (size 12). Going one size higher (size 13) is not easy to compensate by more socks only. That's why I look for an alternative. The shoe itself is good, no complaints.

Oh, that's a bummer, Norbert. Sorry about the sizing.
Let me know if you ever want to try on any other Vasques in the 12 or the 13 - although I would think you'd have better luck with, say, the Velocity or Amp in 13 than you would with any of the 12s, 'cause the Blur feels wider/looser/bigger or something to me than the Velocity or the Amp.
'Cause it's cool to wear a shoe with such good grip and stability, isn't it?

I just bought my first pair of Blur's and love them!
But I did find that they run short in length - I normally wear a 12, but needed a 13 Blur. The 12 felt VERY small.
Although they do accomodate my freakishly wide feet!

One more thing, Norbert - is the length the issue or is it the 'tightness' of the shoe? Vasque does make a size 12 Wide Blur...

It's more like markg72 said: A 12 feels shorter than another shoe in 12. Width is not an issue.
I always forget to try an Amp or Velocity after one of your runs...mostly because you talk me into a chili and then I forget about space and time...and home... ;D
