I just stumbled upon this site a few days ago and am looking to do my first 50K next year. I live in Colorado but would like to head out your direction for my first 50K. I was looking at the Seqoia 50 K and the course looks great. Just wondering if other people have a favorite course?
Not worrying about difficulty but looking for a nice trail to run on and good scenery. Let me know if you have a moment. Thanks,

Cool...
Opinions on a favorite PCTR course will vary quite a bit, and there is no doubt each course is worthy depending on the type of terrain/environment you prefer.
I happen to most enjoy running (fast) through the redwood forests unique to the western coast, so would favor the Big Basin, Woodside, Santa Cruz Mts, Sequoia, and Redwood courses.
This year's Skyline to the Sea event however will most likely be a new favorite, and if I was recommending one PCTR 50K in 08, that would/will be it.
Being in CO, you may want to experience a true ocean vista coastal course, so any of the Marin Headlands events...Pirate's Cove, Rodeo, Muir offer amazing views on classic/historical trails.
Best of luck.

I really like Big Basin, Santa Cruz Mtns, Pirates Cove, Angel Island and Mt. Diablo. I haven't run the rest of them yet

I appretiate the information so far. I am going to be in Santa Cruz at the end of March so I will have to check out a couple trails then.

I can suggest some trails in the Santa Cruz area, as I live in the mountains just above there and run part of the PCTR Santa Cruz Mountains course on a regular basis (just last night, in fact). That run is a great one (though I did the 17k last year, not the 50).
I have also run the Woodside, Carmel, and Angel Island courses, and all are wonderful runs. I, too, am looking forward to the Skyline-to-the-Sea run later this year. That one will be a classic, and I predict a popular one within a year or so.

I tend to prefer the 50Ks that do not deposit me back at the start (where my nice, comfortable car awaits) at mile 18 or 19. That said, I like the Woodside 50K and I'm sure I'll love the Skyline-to-the-Sea 50K. There is something so motivating about the 50K races where you don't have an option of dropping out at mile 18 or 19. I need more self-discipline, I guess.

Montana De Oro.......near San Luis Obispo....I'll be running the 25K in March and the 50K in August...I love the place! And there are some excellent bars and eateries in San Luis for afterwards!
