Ok Sarah, I have a ? and I am having a dilema. I have wanted to do this run all year.Hear is the thing I want to the 12 hour BUT it is 2 weeks before my first 50.Do you think its a bad idea for me to do it 2 weeks before ? I feel like th etime on my feet would be good and i have always wanted to do it but I worry that it is too close to Helen Klein 50 miler. Oh what is a girl to do!!

I think if your goal at the One Day is just be part of the event, spend time on your feet, and enjoy the day at beautiful Crissy Field that it would work out just fine. For the not-so-competitive at heart, fixed-time events are great for all those things - and it's really fun to be in such a social environment and watch all the other runners.
If you have distance goals, though, or are a very competitive person, it might not work out so well to be out there all day and then do your first 50 miler two weeks later.
Hope this helps!
Sarah

Thank you Sarah. I am not a competitive person.Although I can be at shorter distance(5k or 10k) I just want to be part of it and get the time on my feet.
Thats why I love ultra or trail running, because its just about the running, not winning.

Ultragirl,
Think of the SF one day as a buffet. You are welcome to take all you want. You can get SO creative with customizing your day.
Be out for 2,4,6,8,10, 12 hours, OR you could do a 4 hour morning run, take a break for a few hours and come back and do another 5 hours!
I'll look forward to hopefully seeing you out there!
