The peak night for watching the Perseid Meteor Showers this is year is August 13th - but I think that means that there will be showers on the morning of the 12th, too. stardate.org/nightsky/meteors/Someone out there must know more than I... Will we see meteor showers at the Headlands Hundred? I HOPE SO!! ;D Sarah

Cool! I love meteor showers! Dear RDs, could you, uhm, extend the cutoff time for the 50 Mile a bit? Norbert

Back in the days when I was an active radio amateur I have "used" meteor showers as a "reflection shield" for my VHF waves in order to reach longer distances (it's called Meteor-Scatter). Anyway, back then my experience was that the showers were still pretty strong +-2 days off-peak, and at best in the early morning hours. My favorite showers are the quadrantids and geminids (because they're strong and around christmas where skies are clear and clean), but the perseids are certainly nice, too. Especially at some elevation in the Bay Area where you experience less light pollution. So, in summary - you should see them all night! The catch: Some will trip and fall by too much sky watching!! And for the upgrade: Oh well, I wish I could, but I don't want to mess up my Pikes Peak marathon a week later Enjoy! Norbert

Cool! Thanks for the meteor info, Norbert!!
I'm only teasing you about the hundred because I know about Pikes Peak - I'm just looking forward to 2008 when I can send you back out on the course after 50 miles and cheer loud and long for you as you cross the finish line after 100.
THEN I will have spread cheese for sure!

Thanks Sarah for the confidence in me. If you knew what I have in mind for 2008!! You would be proud of me And then I will have a T-Shirt: Did Headlands 100 and all I got was some lousy spread cheese!! ;D Do you already have a HH100 T-Shirt design in mind? I propose to put some meteors on there! Well, that must be cool! I forgot: Do the HH50 finishers get the same shirt as the HH100 finishers? Guess so. Bye Norbert

Cool. Thanks for the meteor info. I haven't decided on the 50 or 100 yet. I'll add this to the 100 column.

Meteor showers! Wow, even the heavens are beckoning me to run my first 100 out there. I guess I'd better live up to the promise I made to myself and sign up...
