route to Susanville, CA from Bay area

I am registered to run the Biz Johnson trail marathon.

I was trying to lookup a route to Susanville, CA from the
Bay area. Is there a decent alternative to CA-36? It appears
to be quite curvy and winding - something only motorcyclists
seem to be fond of.
