The main page for the event says (under Timing): "Please note that we don't consider this event as a legitimate qualifier for any 100-mile trail run."

hello there, just wanted to say that the director of the western states considers this "run" a legitimate western states qualifier. I called him...so i wonder who is right? Regardless, it'll be fun...i hope.

The purpose of the SF One Day is to go as far as you can in 12 or 24 hours. Your official result will be for 12 or 24 hours. It's not designed to be a 50 miler or 100 Km and there won't be a recorded time at those distances. We really don't want runners to run over 50 miles and stop before 11 hours and expect a special report to qualify for WS. It's not in the spirit of this event.

Western States could simply designate a mileage number that would qualify one for that race at timed events. Since an 11 hour 50 miler is a qualifier, perhaps 55 miles in a 12 hour race, and of course 100 miles in a 24 hour race seems appropriate. Then, PCTR would not have to produce any special reports, etc. The WS hopeful would just produce the race results that states their mileage total for the 12/24 hour race.
