Thanks PCTR for yet another great race!
It seemed to me like the new course was more challenging than last year's, with the 4X climb over Wolf Ridge (between TV and the S/F). I noticed in the race instructions that the elevation gain for this year's 50M was 11040 feet, but I don't remember what the elevation gain was last year. Does anyone know? Thanks!

i ran the Headlands 50 yesterday in 12:10+ hours. Will this finish time qualify me to join the 2011 Western States? Your course is more challenging than the Bulldog 50K in Malibu, California. Nice route & volunteers!

No, unfortunately, you won't be able to qualify for States. You can get another shot at it on Oct 9th at the Firetrails 50mile race. It's an easier course. Here's the link on how to qualify ws100.com/qualifying.htm

For one thing, the 2010 50-mile course was more challenging because it was longer. At least 52 miles by my GPS, and I hear I wasn't unusual in that regard.
On the other hand, we didn't have to go up the Pirate's Cove steps. That has to have helped.
But it was also more challenging since we didn't get the gorgeous vistas of the SCA trail.
When will we know the course for the Headlands Hundred? I heard at least one person who said that if it's the course from yesterday, they are far less likely to sign up for the Hundred.

Yes! It was more challenging and it was terriffic! I liked staying on the trails over wolf ridge versus hitting the paved trail toward the top of Hill 88.
Thanks for a fun day and thanks to all the volunteers who came out to support the race.

I have to say that I LOVE the new course! Keep in mind that my dream race would be a 100 miler cruising up and down hill 88 only! I'm sure I'll love the course a little less on August 8th!!!!! (he-he!) All Day! ~Ken

We're still working with the park on the course for HH. The park is expecting to have additional trail closures in August, so we're working with them to find out which ones (near Muir Beach) and whether anything will be reopening before HH.
We've received such mixed feedback on the H50 course - some people loved it, others couldn't bear seeing Bobcat Trail so often.
We are looking into options regarding SCA/Alta and/or Rodeo Valley instead of or in addition to Bobcat. And we're trying to make it 100 miles, spot on - obviously, some of the wheeled measurements weren't accurate last weekend. (As for the old elevation, it was about 1,000 ft less than Saturday's.)
Please continue to post your comments here - we are definitely interested and will try to accommodate as many people as possible.

I am signed up for the 100 on 8/7 and personally would much prefer the 4 loops to be more pure "loops" similar to last year. Looking at the map from the 50 miler/marathon, it looks like there would be a lot of criss-crossing over the same trails if the 100 uses that route. I'm guessing it affects the distance, but my preference would be to have the race do the exact same thing as Miwok did this year, i/e. instead of going onto Conzelman on the route, go back down to Bunker Road, take that up to Coastal, and all the way up to SCA (similar to last year).

I believe you are correct re course length. Two of us ran the marathon and came up with 27.18 mile course lengths.
