I'm new to the PCTR. I've run about 60 marathons and 50k's, but I'm wondering if anyone has any advice -- general or particular. I have two questions: 1) Is packet pickup at the start on race morning? 2) How is traffic on Sat morning? I'll be driving from a motel in Hayward. 3) Will oranges and/or bananas be on the course? Thanks, Vickie

All you need to do is show race morning and check, and get your race number.
Traffic isn't a problem on Saturday morning but parking is somtimes tight.
As for the fruit I don't stop at the aid stations so it's hard to say for sure but I know I've see oranges at most pctr stations.

rojoracing covered most of it and I can't say 100% that bananas and oranges will be there but I have seen them at many other PCTR aid stations in addition to numerous other goodies. The bathroom situation at Sequoia can be tricky. Last time they had 3 or 4 porto-potties delivered at the park entrance. Additionally there's a very small restroom at the start/finish line that will have looooong lines. Be prepared to use them early if that's your routine. The link below shows the park entrance. The race start is down a steep trail just beyond the metal yellow gate in the picture. The registration table is typically down there with lines for the various distances (all are short and move quick) with safety pins to attach your race numbers. Enjoy the day! maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Joaquin+Miller+Park,+3600+Joaquin+Miller+Road,+Oakland,+CA+94602&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=36.231745,70.839844&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=3600+Joaquin+Miller+Rd,+Oakland,+Alameda,+California+94611&ll=37.809597,-122.18359&spn=0.008832,0.017295&z=16&layer=c&cbll=37.809563,-122.183396&panoid=uN400qphh43VRBm4x81N2w&cbp=12,35.55,,0,-4.89

Wow - you guys pretty much covered it all. Yes, there will be bananas and oranges at the aid stations, as well as melon if it's a hot day. As for parking, there's lots of on street parking, but also a nice lot up the road past the park entrance. Too often, people assume it's full and just park on the street, so it's probably worth checking out, particularly if you arrive early. And great advice about the bathrooms - we will again have porta-potties at the start, but it's still a great idea to...plan ahead. See you Saturday in Oakland!

Watch out for poison oak! I've gotten it pretty bad in Joaquin Miller, so I'd recommend being careful to avoid stepping off the trail or running near the edges, and also using something like Ivy Block before the race and/or washing ASAP afterwards with Tecnu (I've also had good luck washing with dish soap, I figure if it's good enough to cut through bacon grease, butter, and cooking oil it can probably cut through poison oak oils). And the lines aren't so bad at the women's bathroom Usually less than 10 minutes (not like a road marathon). If you arrive 30-45 minutes ahead of time, that should give you time to park, sign in, and use the bathroom with some time to spare.

Wow! you guys-- the responders to my questions-- are great! You answered all of my questions, and more. I especially appreciate the warning about the poison oak, as I am allergic to it, yet so tuned in to our eastern poison ivy (I'm from Virginia) that I would have tuned out the west coast poison oak plant. I can recognize it, though, and now I know to be on the lookout. Thanks again, everyone, and see you Saturday. I'll be the woman at the end of the runners with the small orange backpack. I'll probably be the last one to finish, but I always finish. Give me a wave as you pass me on the trail!

Unless I'm missing it, I'm not seeing an elevation chart anywhere for the 30K (or any other distances). Does anyone have one they could share, perhaps a link to their Garmin Connect from a prior race, or if someone happened to grab the pic when it was up (maybe share via tinypic.com)?
I've never gone into a race not knowing what I'm facing in terms of where/what the climbs and descents look like, and considering this is my first race since September as I'm recovering from some injuries, I'm even more anxious than normal!
Thanks!

FYI the labels are incorrect, but I can see in the link names which is which. Thanks so much, exactly what I was looking for. See you all tomorrow morning!

Ran the course on Wednesday. The trail is slippery / muddy in places due to fog + trees acting as condensing units. Messiest spots were on Tres Sendas and French. Otherwise, course looks good.
If anyone needs a ride from the city, hit me up.
