Hi there,
I'm a moderately fit runner, have run a few half marathons and currently training for my first 20km trail race at Redwood Regional Park.
I live in Oakland, have friends in Alamo and recently realized that the wilderness between the Oakland Hills all the way to Alamo/Danville could make for a fantastic trail run.
I spent some time in Google Earth / MapMyRun.com and mapped out a 15 mile run that starts in Redwood Regional Park in Oakland, past Moraga, along the Rocky Ridge Trail and straight through Las Trampas Regional park, to end at the edge of Alamo. Elevation is between 500 and 1800 ft and the most challenging part will be a 1000ft climb over 2 miles distance, starting at 8.5 miles.
Check out the route here:

(click on the 3D button on the map to get a good sense of the terrain)
Other than Redwood park I've never actually hit any of these trails... I'm sure I'm not ready yet but after a bit more training it seems like this would be a fantastic run.
My question: because I'm so new to trail running and because I've never hiked/run most of this trail, it's difficult for me to assess the difficulty level of this run. Is anyone here familiar with the trails in Las Trampas or the trails west of that park? If so, would you rate this run easy, moderate or difficult? Is it a bad idea to do a run like this alone, and/or are there other runners here who would be interested in joining me on this run some time in the fall?
thanks
Peter
