Montana de Oro Results Letter

[Pacific Coast Trail Runs]

Well, we honestly never expected to say ‘Montaña de Oro’ and ‘sold out’ in the same sentence – but that’s exactly what happened this year! Who would have thought that this run on the challenging, beautiful trails of Montaña de Oro State Park would go from being our second smallest event each year to drawing 240 runners?! We were always kind of sad that what we considered our two most beautiful runs, Salt Point and Montaña de Oro, got such small turnouts and that people didn’t seem to know about these fabulous parks. It appears that the ‘secret’ of this large-yet-tucked-away park in Los Osos is out, that’s for sure!!

Thanks to all of you for joining us on Sunday. It was a very fun crowd – the folks who join us for this run every year, some very good Bay Area friends who made the trip down, more friends from Santa Barbara and points south, and so many first time trail runners. And a few people even became ultrarunners after finishing Sunday’s tough, hot 50 Km as their first!! Congratulations to the first time trail runners, new ultrarunners, and all the other finishers.

Our next event is back in the San Francisco Bay Area – the Pirates Cove Trail Run on Saturday, March 24th. This run is always very popular – it’s on some of the Bay Area’s best and most beautiful trails – and we’ll have 8 Km, 20 Km, 30 Km, and 50 Km events from which you may choose. This event may sell out, too, so please don’t delay if you’re considering running on the 24th.

Hey Wendell & Sarah...thanks for the run...My Quads are still feeling the downhills.This run gave me a great boost for American River 50...It's going to be my first 50 miler and I needed a strong 50k to help get me ready....... I was wondering if you had anyone taking pictures...and if so....were you planning on posting them in your photo section? ....thanks again....Ted

Hi, Ted -

Thanks again for coming out to run in Los Osos. After that 50 Km, AR will probably feel like a piece of cake!

We were actually quite short-handed at MdO - a couple of helpers didn't show up - so we weren't able to devote anyone to taking pictures. A hiker who was on the course and took some photos has contacted us, but we haven't received anything from him yet. We'll post a notice here if/when we get any photos up from MdO.

Thats ok....I still have the views in my mind! Your the second person who said that AR50 will be a piece of cake after that. ....I'm still new to trail running and 50k's...so I don't have much of a reference when it comes to saying if Montana de Oro was "easy or hard". I think I got the idea when another runner called me "one of the crazys' doing the 50k". Thanks again...and I'll try and make one of the other 50ks you two put on. And just to give you some perspective, you did 6,400 feet of climbing over the 50 kilometers at MdO - and AR has 3,400 feet of climbing over 50 miles.
