hi all:
I am competing at the TransRockies Race in just 3 weeks and lack a partner. Sarah and Wendell suggested posting here, even though its not a PCTR race, thanks guys!
In brief, the race is 5 days, 118 miles, 18,000 feet climbing. The race was shortened from 6 days, 125 miles due to heightened bear activity and trail access issues. I will be arriving in Colorado on 9/8 to acclimate before the race. The race is September 16th-20th, and starts from Beaver Creek, CO (near Vail).
Race website: www.transrockies.com
My personal race plans: www.breastcancerfund.org/ssyed
Below is some basic info about my pace and experience, I can provide more upon request. If you are interested in racing with me, please contact me offline at ssyed *AT* sonic.net very soon. If financial means are an obstacle to your participation, I am happy to help with the registration fee if you are a good match otherwise.
Sea level pace: I typically average 10 min/mile on hilly trails; and 8 min/mile on gentle terrain. The race requires that you stay within two minutes of your teammate at all times, so finding a partner similar to my pace is essential. I recently finished my first 10K road race in 47:32 (it was not an “all out” effort).
At 10,000 ft, my pace is somewhat slower than those posted above (imagine that!). With 5 days straight of long mileage running up and down mountains, I expect to average more like 12-18 min/miles. I won't be very competitive at TransRockies, but I want to run the strongest race possible given my ability. I want to be comfortable and happy throughout this ultimate running vacation.
Experience/training: I roughly followed the 16 week "finisher" program on the TransRockies website. I topped out at 65 miles this past week, and included a lot of multi-sport training (cycling/strength training/yoga) along the way. I've been running for 1.5 yrs, so I'm still in that puppy love stage. I typically run one trail race/month. I am on a non-competitive women's running team (an ambassador team for LUNA bar). I'm 27 and I live in Berkeley.
I look forward to hearing from you soon. Please tell me a little bit about you, your running experience, and running goals. And of course, when you are free for a run.
happy trails,
Sarah S.
PS. How had I not heard of Sarah's Sierra to the Sea run before today? Just printed out the race report and can't wait to read it!
