Hi,
We run the Big Basin 10k with my son and we are considering to run the Angle Island Trail as well. It was hard :-).
How you rate this run compare to big basin?
Should we do the 8 or 16K?
thanks,
Eyal.

I've only run the 50K at both races, but Big Basin is much tougher in terms of the overall course. While the 8K at Angel Island does have the most elevation gain of the three loops and may technically climb more over the distance, I don't think it is as difficult as the 10K loop at Big Basin. Other than the initial stairs there isn't any climb that compares to the steepness of the big climb at BB. As for which you should do, I think if you are looking for a little more challenge then the 16K would be good. The first loop is not so steep and has some nice trails and then you get to do the summit on the second loop so it will feel like you really accomplished something bigger. While it is a loop course, those two have sufficient variety to keep it interesting and you won't have to do the icky (in my opinion) outer paved loop. -Steve

Thanks, Steve, for the thorough answer.
Also, just to give you an idea what you and your son accomplished in Big Basin, several runners who have run all or most of our shorter distance events commented that the 10 Km loop at Big Basin was the hardest one of all the PCTR events!
Hope to see you both on Angel Island!
