I was wondering if anyone knows of a good RV park close to the Santa Cruz trail run?

Sorry that I didn't get back to you, Leslie! We stayed one place, in our tent, one year - and it may have been this: www.santacruzranchrv.com/Not cheap, but very nice. If you do a search under 'santa cruz rv camping' there are a few other places, too. Anyone else have suggestions? Sarah

Leslie, When I was looking for motels, my folks suggested bringing their RV. They couldn't find anything "nice" (they baby their Holiday Rambler) but you may have better luck. Even getting a cheap ($150/night) room was a challenge. Now I will make it a one-day haul from Stockton area.

With Mt. Diablo right around the corner I was hoping to get some more info on Santa Cruz? I got alot of great feedback about Mt. Diablo and I hope I am ready.
So, barring any fatalities ( I mean injuries) from Mt. Diablo, I hope to finsih the Santa Cruz in the 15hr time limit. ;D

We've never stayed here but you might want to check out: www.saratoga-springs.com/camping/"Saratoga Springs is nestled in the foothills of the Santa Cruz coastal mountain range. Although close to the historic city of Saratoga, and just 30 minutes from San Jose or Mountain View, it is worlds apart from the bustle of Silicon Valley." Wendell (PCTR)

I noticed the course has a river crossing. The following is from the race day instructions:
"One of the special features for the 21 Km, 29 Km, and 50 Km events is the San Lorenzo River crossing just after the first aid station (Hwy. 9). The water level could be thigh deep. Please be careful and have fun."
Can someone comment on how to approach the crossing? Do most people carry their shoes and socks across the river? Or do people have a drop bag with fresh shoes? Is the river bottom rocky or easy on bare feet?

Did this run last year and I definitely say there is NO need to take shoes and socks off. Just tread right in and enjoy the cool soothing water. Your feet will dry pretty quickly as it is usually pretty warm there. My main recommendation on the water crossing is mainly for the 50K runners. If it is a warm day, it will be VERY tempting to just sit right down and hang out in the creek on that fourth crossing. Prepare yourself mentally or you may never make it to the finish

Perhaps some pictures from another race I did last year are helpful. I had a concern about running with wet feet in that race, but I really enjoyed it after crossing the thigh-high water for my first time. It brought a lot of fun and made the legs cool. I actually didn't feel the wet feet within a minute. Chihping

I agree about leaving shoes and socks on - within a very short time, my feet always feel dry after that crossing. And the water you'll be crossing in the Santa Cruz event is very clear, not muddy at all, and isn't rushing like the photos that Chihping posted.

If no one's going to mention the sand, maybe that means that we need to have more brought in for this year's event... Sarah
