I have thought about a few things for the next Carmel Valley trail run: 1. Make the orange loop even steeper 2. Have the female 25k winner (Sophia this year) always serve Chili to 50k runners at the finish 3. Make the run a little later in the year, so that start temperatures really dip under 32 degrees! ;D Seriously speaking, that run was a blast! Gorgeous weather, a nice crowd and a beautiful course! I actually enjoyed the steep orange loop a lot (even the second time) and it made us think and run tactical during the whole time (hydration, when to push, etc..). I personally enjoyed meeting Brian and his wife Sophia at the start - I saw again them only after I finished because they were both winners in their respective categories Sophia was even so nice to cater Chili to me at the finish, seeing me sitting there, pale and unable to speak ;D The aid station at Ball Fields was great and because those guys were so social it cost me the 2 minutes I could have stayed under 7 hours. The time was well invested though! Man, I'm so sore and happy today - I would like to run it next week again, but wait: There is a tiny, thingy 50 miler waiting next Saturday.. can't recall the name... Thanks to all again! Norbert

It really WAS a ton of fun, wasn't it?! Everyone was really nice, and the day was gorgeous, as you've said.
So glad that you enjoyed the service you received, both at the ballfields and, from Sophia, at the finish line. You and all the other runners deserved it - that was one hilly course!!
Thanks for coming out to run down there, Norbert - we really love that park, the rangers, and the folks who come out to run and help down there.
See you next weekend...and keep your fingers crossed for no you-know-what's flying around on the course!!

I'm hoping for large signs posted throughout the course that read:
**PAY ATTENTION TO TRAIL SURFACE**

Maybe you should have written that on Olver's back and let him lead you out... Sorry about your ankle, Will... Hope it heals quickly. Sarah

That was a great run, and man that first orange loop was steep! I'm going to have to get back down there to train on that sucker! Hopefully I'll be ready to tackle it twice next year, cause there was no way I was ready to do it twice yesterday. And I couldn't agree with Norbert more when he said it really made one think tactically, as I couldn't help but think about all the 50k runners planning for that climb again!
Looking forward to the next one on my list - Woodside in December. Thanks again for a great time Wendell and Sarah.

Glad that you guys all enjoyed the park and the course! We really love it down there, and it's so fun to hear people when they finish running on those trails! ;D
And we're super happy that Lori was able to run, too, Andy - it was such a surprise to realize that you were both there!
See you in December on some much-mellower trails!
