I noticed this got changed to later in the year...was there something wrong with permits? Or did it just make sense to have it later in the year for some reason.

We've held it both spring and fall in the past, and both are nice down there. We actually had to move it for 2008 because of problems (yellowjackets) at other events, not because of any MdO issues. We needed to move some other things to springtime, hoping to avoid the yellowjacket problems at those parks, so we're moving MdO back to the fall for next year.
Hope you can make it out next fall for it, Ted!

Oh I'll be there....This actually works out great for me...I think I might attack the Sub 3hr marathon at Napa Marathon. The date on that is March 2nd. I'll get some speed over the winter...hopefully that will get my going for the Spring/summer ultras..Ted

I have to say that I am a bit bummed by the date change. I am about to become a part-owner of a vacation home down in Arroyo Grande and was looking forward to this race next spring. I'll have to wait a bit longer for the race now. However, I definitely won't be waiting to do any running there as it looks like the prime spot in the central coast. Perhaps by next fall I can have all the trails memorized .

Have you never run there before, Steve? WOW - it's SO beautiful!! Truly, Wendell and I think that it's probably in the top three venues - lots of variety, great views, tough climbs, cool wildlife. Interestingly, too, some of the nicest mountain bikers sharing the trails, as well.
That's neat about the house down that way - looks as if you'll be all set for the event when it finally rolls around next fall!

PS Plus, you can check out one of our FAVORITE restaurants after a training run AND after the event - Taco Temple!

Sarah, I've never run down there. We lived in Santa Maria for a little while when I was growing up and my parents still have a lot of friends down there. They rented a house in Pismo Beach for a few weeks last summer, but when I visited, I just ran along the beaches. Now that we are going in on a rental/vacation property, I imagine I will be down there a little more often and am gonna need to explore the local trails. I think Montana de Oro is about 1/2 hour from Arroyo Grande.

I think you're right about the half hour - I know that we get quite a few people from the A.G. area at our MdO event.
Oh, Steve, that will be SO wonderful for you guys to have that place as a vacation spot! We, too, really enjoy that whole area - the towns, the trails, the beaches - it's so lovely. I'm really happy for you that you'll have those trails to explore before too long!
Sarah
PS You lived in some cool places growing up!
