Greetings!
I'm stoked! My friend turned me on to trail running over a year ago - we ran twice and I have not had a true trail run since. I signed up for the 12K at Stinson Beach and am soliciting advice/suggestions as to clothing, shoes and basically anything a first-timer should know.
For background, I have been racing triathlons as an age-grouper since 1993, and enjoy running the most. A couple of years ago, I blew out my knee and had an ACL reconstruction, so I'm keen to the benefits of trail running vs. road running. Thanks in advance for your help!

You should be stoked...any event in the Marin headlands is awesome...congrats on getting back from injury.
As for clothing, come prepared for all weather conditions, it all depends on the morning fog/temps, make the call pre-start.
Just wear your favorite running shoes, no real need for trail specific models.
Depending on your pace, you may want to carry water, but there is an aid station about half-way even in the 12K.
Not sure of the bathroom facilities at this venue, but strongly advise you take care of business early as they tend to get pretty crowded just before unstaggered start.
Know/follow the ribbons for your course, as opposed to following other runners (explained on 'race-day' info page, and again by race director prior to start, you'll want to listen carefully...PCTR courses are always clearly marked and easy to follow if you know/pay attention to your course ribbon color).
Enjoy, see you at the finish. Good luck.

Thanks a ton Will! I will bring water for sure, as I have no idea what my pace will be (bought a new hydration pack today for hiking/trail running).
Any other suggestions are appreciated. Enjoy!! John

I should add... As Wendell gives last minute instruction via the bullhorn, Sarah will gracefully demonstrate the ribbons much like a stewardess shows the emergency oxygen system on a passenger airline. Will G.

Ah, thank you, Will! I see that my hours practicing in front of the mirror at home haven't been wasted!!
(You crack me up!)

But in an airplane I have an iPod, newspaper, book, nice girl, etc... next to me that make me not listen to the flight attendant. ;D Wendell's last minute instructions are indeed very good and it helped me quite often so far.

I can certainly appreciate a solid ribbon demonstration. Your efforts in front of the mirror are not in vain.
Any suggestions as to rain gear/jackets? Anything other than what I would normally wear for a romp in the rain? Thanks again!
