Howdy, I was just going through the races for next year, trying to get a handle on what races I may run for the Ultramarathon Race Series. I came up with 22 races that will have the 50K distance and wanted to find out what's missing. Here is what I have found: Listed on site: 1/19 - Pacifica 2/2 - Woodside 2/16 - Sequoia 3/2 - Santa Monica Mountains 3/15 - Skyline Ridge 3/22 - Pirates Cove 4/27 - Big Basin 5/25 - Forest Park 6/8 - Mt. Diablo 6/14 - Santa Cruz 6/21 - Pacifica 7/5 - Angel Island 7/20 - Salt Point 8/31 - Montana de Oro 9/6 - Redwood Park 9/27 - Angel Island 10/5 - Carmel Valley Total - 17 Others not listed (I'm assuming these will be added in the 08 schedule after they are done for 2007): 11/? - Stinson Beach 11/? - Santa Monica Mountains 12/? - Woodside 12/? - Muir Beach 12/? - Rodeo Beach Total - 5 So, what am I missing? I'm pretty sure I won't be running them all. I have found that putting together my first year-long racing schedule is more involved than I thought it would be. Lots to plan for and think about, seeing that I'm hoping to do my first 50 and 100 milers sometime next year!

Good catch! It actually is 22, not 23. We were thinking it was: 27 total events - 4 Diablo, Half Day, Headlands Hundred, One Day (no 50 Km) ------- 23 However, the January Angel Island event doesn't have a 50 Km, either, so it actually is currently only 22. We have one more event that we're discussing as a possible 50 Km-only addition to the calendar - but then that's it, really!! ;D Sarah

Thanks. It's not easy deciding which ones to do - there are so many good ones to choose from. :-)

That would be great, actually. For all those who can't move their fingers quick enough on the keyboard to get into Miwok, why not have one of the Rodeo Beach/Pirates Cove Runs as a 50k/100k event only? One of the reasons not to do it might be the extreme popularity of those, also for short disctance runners I assume. Man, I feel like a business/marketing consultant for the 2010+ PCTR race series! I have a great location suggestion for a 50/100K: the Skyline to the Sea trail from Waddell Beach to Castle Rock State Park. I believe Skyline to the Sea is about 30 miles one way. Though we will have to watch out for the yellowjackets!

andyb,
Sarah and I were just talking about how we could add a SttS 50 Km, with a possible 100 Km option, to the schedule next year. It's a great course.

In fact, SttS is the 50 Km-only (or 50/100 Km-only) final calendar addition to which I was alluding in my earlier post.

andyb, Sarah and I were just talking about how we could add a SttS 50 Km, with a possible 100 Km option, to the schedule next year. It's a great course. Wendell (PCTR) Oh man, I would SOOOOOO run that race! I have actually always wanted to run that whole trail and was probably going to add it as a self-supported run for my schedule next year. However, if you guys make it a race it would be a huge bonus. Just make sure it is worth LOTS of points in the series and give bonus points for the bee stings ;D

Do you want points for the stings that you get, or the ones that others get from 'your' bees? Man, if it's the latter, you're gonna win the Series no problem! Sarah

Right on! I will definitely run a SttS race.
Steve, I've been thinking for awhile about running it, and think my brother wants to do it with me, which would allow us to run the whole thing one way by leaving a car up in the Saratoga Gap parking lot and driving the other down to Waddell. It would be fun to make it a group run so if you, or anyone else is interested, let me know and we can start making some plans.
