So, I was out on Coastal Trail yesterday, part of the Rodeo/Muir/Pirates Cove 22 km loop, and had a bad case of anti-deja vu. Not sure what the correct term is. You know, deja vu is when you distinctly recollect being in a place, seeing things? well, this was being in that very same place and finding it so different that it creeps you out so much you kinda lose your bearings and start wondering if some chemical just messed with at least a couple of your senses, or else you're partway into an early case of Alzheimer's.
The eucalypti! they are all gone! and there are a bunch of signs there from NPS, literally one by each stump and pile of mulch, saying thank you for your understanding in our eradicating the non-native species. Not a single tree left. ---Bare---hills. The only trees left on the course are some pines out there Marincello way. I'm sure they're non-native, too, and have a similar terminatory destiny. I kinda get it that it's probably for our best common good, since a bunch of nature biologists ruled that way, but it seems a common good much like the TSA strip-search routine to me.
I will miss the eucalyptus.

NO WAY! I can't even imagine... How very, very sad...even if it is for the best in the 'big picture'.
I'm sort of dreading my first time out there now. But thanks for the warning.
