Just looked at the Across the Years website and noticed that Aaron ran 50 miles in the 24 hour race. Nice job Aaron, that's awesome! And good luck to Wendell and Sarah who are both still running...

It appears the three totaled 262+ miles... Yeah I don't recall my family ever even driving that far in a single weekend Will G.

Thanks to all of you for your neat comments here - Aaron was thrilled, as you can imagine, to read what you wrote.
Needless to say, Wendell and I are super proud of Aaron. He ran smart, ate well, and really took care of himself. He went through 50 Km in 7:47 even with two sitting and eating breaks. As some of you may have seen, he got to ~47.5 miles by 11:00 p.m. or so, but had slowed significantly as it got late and very cold. He took a break a little after 11:00, hoping to regroup and go back out to finish up, but when he tried he found that he was just spent - his legs were done for the day. (We'd tried to convince him when he sat down that it was time to rest and finish up in the morning, but he was determined to finish...until he realized that he literally couldn't.) He was back out on the track shortly after 7:00 a.m. and all three of us circled together, with Aaron able to run easily once again. I think he only needed about 7 loops to be done, and he finished up before 8:00, proud and no longer tired. He spent the rest of the day and the weekend playing with Gavin Wrublik, riding bikes and skateboards, shooting hoops, and running around.
Aaron and I ran separately for most of the first hour of his race, since he goes out faster than I do, but were together for all the rest of his miles. We had a ton of fun most of the time, giving and getting 'Good job! comments to and from the other runners and talking about all kinds of things. Once it got late and cold it was really hard for Aaron, though, and Wendell and I were really relieved when he decided to go to bed and finish up in the morning. His goal for next year's ATY is to get to 50 in one shot and THEN go to bed – we each plan to run the 24-hour event on three separate days, and all three of us are already looking forward to it.
My favorite quotes from Aaron’s time on the track both came in the morning, as he ran his final laps. First, when we discussed the previous night’s experiences when he just couldn’t go on – “It was as if my legs had a mind of their own – and they weren’t thinking good things!” And a short time later, when Pete Stringer asked him if he would run another 24 hour event – “Not this year!”
I apologized to Wendell as I looped around alone the next day, knowing that I would 'only' get 100 miles in - 50 with Aaron and 50 by myself - since I would want to get a good night's sleep before I spent the last day and night crewing for Wendell. 100 miles in 48 hours wasn't anything to write home about, but we both knew that the first 50 were special, important, irreplaceable miles run with a wonderful boy we're honored to call our son - so I knew what Wendell meant when he said, "Don't apologize - it was perfect."
