Haven't been running long, started last year, ran the Bridge to Bridge 12K as my first race a few months ago, and have managed to keep at it since then.
I live in Marin and have done a little running up by Phoenix Lake, and really enjoy being off the roads a bit and want to explore trail running some more. Even got myself a Garmin 305 for Christmas to help fuel my running interest!
My question is about Angel Island coming up in a couple weeks, would it be a good one for a first time trail runner? I haven't done a lot of hill work to date, but figure I need to start somewhere. While I pass by it every day on the ferry, I've never actually been to Angel Island at all, so not sure what it's like.
Also, any good websites for trail running worth checking out, other than this one of course?
TIA

www.baytrailrunners.com/trails.phpThat is a good link. Angel Island is a great run. All the PCTR runs are great, this would be a good one for your first time. Have fun! Also- check out runtrails.blogspot.com/ if you haven't yet- a wealth of info in the archives. And searching back in this message board, you will learn a lot.

Thanks so much, and I've spent the last 45 minutes reading past posts and replies from first timers as well.
I'll check out the links you sent, thanks again.

I highly recommend Angel Island for you first trail run. If you are worried about hills, don't be with Angel Island in mind. The last stretch coming down and back to the start/finish is a definate E Ticket!

Angel Island would be a great one for a first-time trail run. Really, the only steep hill section is the steps at the beginning of each loop - the rest is very runnable. And the views are incredible, as long as it's not foggy! Have fun.

Thanks for the great pics and write-up, Scott! I saw you ever-so-briefly as you checked in...and then not again all day! And I never saw your family at all!! I feel terrible...
So glad that you all had fun - it sure was just a perfect day to be out there!!
Well, Happy New Year now - and hope I actually get to say 'hi', at least, next time we're in the same place at the same time!

Great pictures and information, Scott. I've just signed up for the summer Angel Island 25K (which will probably be my second race after Forest Park in May) and your blog post has me even more stoked about it!
One question: since I'll be flying in from Denver, would it be worth getting a rental car?

There is excellent public transit to Tiburon, so if you don't want to rent, you don't have to.
