Hi, all.
I just got registered for the Forest Park 20K in May, which will actually be my first race ever. Anyway, I've only been to Portland once, in Sept. 2006 for a weekend, so I don't know the area very well. I did run at FP while I was there - and fell in love with it, of course. I definitely want to move to Oregon some day.
So does anyone have any hotel recommendations, preferably not hideously expensive and near the race? (I may get a rental car, but only to be able to drive out to Multnomah Falls.)
Thanks, Justin

Sounds cool Justin, congrats on your first race, it'll be a great time, no doubt.
Check out the Forest Park page, as PCTR has provided a link to hotel/motels about halfway down the page ('Lodging').
Good luck.

Thanks, Will.
I actually am looking at the hotels on the PCTR link. I just wanted to see if people have any particular recommendations. Right now I'm considering Silver Cloud Inn and Inn @ Northrup Station, as those are the closest I've seen and look nice, albeit a touch pricey.

Yeah, for Portland, I know that there are less expensive hotels in the downtown area than the ones that are on our hotel/motel link. Yahoo Travel lists a bunch well under $100, but I would think some of the folks who've run up there in the past might have some personal recommendations.

Hi Justin, I'm originally from Portland, and I'll be up at Forest Park that weekend.
As for hotels, you can't go wrong with any of the upper end hotels in the downtown area, but you will pay over $100, more in the +$150 range from what I've seen.
If you don't mind driving a little bit, the towns of Beaverton and Tigard are ~25-30 minutes away by car; you'll definitely pay less, more like below $100.
The hotels on the other side of the Willamette River (near the convention center and Lloyd center) are cheaper, and decent - your typical chains like Red Lion and such.
I'd stay away from the airport hotels; they're at least 30 min away by car, and not that great - at least from I remember about having my senior prom there...
See you in PDX, Online Coach Marissa

Thanks for the tips, Marissa. I've actually decided to turn this trip into a full-out vacation, making the lodging a bit more complicated. My thoughts at this point are to fly into PDX on 5/17, drive out to the coast, maybe Tillamook and Cannon Beach, and spend a couple of days. Lots of great looking lush parks (Tillamook, Ecola, etc.). Then maybe on 5/22 drive back to Portland, and likely out to Multnomah Falls - I love the pictures of those falls, can't wait to see them in person. Do some more sightseeing and then cap off the vacation with a nice 20K. I've got some planning to do! Any suggestions, I'd love to hear them, whether in this thread or via PM. My thanks go out to Sarah for suggesting joining this forum! Justin Justin
