Hey all-toying with the idea of bringing my five year old to try the 9k together, instead of trying to gimp along on my bad knee and actually run the 9k. Wendell/Sarah/other knowledgable folks-do you think a reasonably athletic five year old could do it? Or am I looking at a serious whine-complain-carry fest...

Hildy-
My opinion is that it would be a pretty serious run/hike for a 5yo, though the climbs (2) are not particularly steep (due to switchback style), they go on for quite some time...it's also a course where you MUST pay attention to your footing, as there are lots of covered roots through the eucalyptus groves.
Over the ~6m you could possibly be looking at 2.5-3hrs based on previous results.
