This guy showed up at Pacifica on Saturday all set to run - so set, in fact, that EVEN BROUGHT HIS OWN NUMBER WITH HIM SO HE DIDN'T HAVE TO PAY!! If he looks familiar to anyone, you might want to let him know how very inappropriate it is to not only bandit, but wear a 'fake' number while you do it.

I can't believe he took it that far. If I see him, I will kick his ass.

Could be he's like me and gets lost easily. Could be he was an official starter at, say, Miwok last year and headed off in the wrong direction, kept running. Maybe we should applaud his endurance and grit? I mean, he could be in Santa Barbara right now if he's still going.

You're probably right! THAT is probably why he looks so concerned and as if he's not having any fun...

What's he carrying in his right hand?? Could it be a cell phone or possibly a knife?

I think it's his Portable Race Number Carrying Case.

I think it's his Portable Race Number Carrying Case. Here again, Will has ripped me off. When I get buy my used race bibs from him, I get only the rusty safety pins -- no fancy Deluxe Portable Used Race Number Carrying Case. I'm telling you, there needs to be some industry oversight in the black market for used race bibs, some regulation before these kinds of consumer abuses get out of hand. Caveat emptor? More like Caveat Will, next time.

I think you just forgot to use the pull-down menu:
If you’d rather not receive a used t-shirt from last year's event and would like $5 off another item (i.e.,hat, socks, Deluxe Portable Used Race Number Carrying Case, performance shirt), please select from this pull-down menu:
Live and learn.

Did you look up past 191s? I mean it's either himself or Will's old number. But then again, Will would never run a 12k ;-) Norbert PS: My Pacifica's 527 is on ebay

Public humiliation is a good way to stop this guy. Create a large color photo of the guy with the caption "Wanted for theft of services" and put it by the aid station at the start/finish for the next several races. If nothing else, he'll never steal from you again.

That is so funny...if Sarah and Wendell's meticulous surveillance could be emulated in major road/trail races all over the US, there would be no bandits.....WE ARE WATCHING YOU! I did see Wendell yelling at the XC runners eating food for the runners, which was funny; "People paid $30-$40 for these races, I wish you'd respect that!" haha. I wish it could also apply to headphone wearing runners, but that would have to be left for another forum.

You're too funny, Adrian!! Yeah, they weren't just 'eating food' - they were asking me to serve them hot chili in bowls so they wouldn't have to serve themselves!! Really, once I realized what they'd done, I was shocked that they'd have the nerve to do it...

The XC runners also seemed to drag the eventual 21 km winner along with them up the fire road during their cooldown. Note: I had absolutely nothing to do with that. No, no, I would never think of something like hiring innocent-looking kids to eat the race leaders' food and guide them off course. I'm a lot more evil than that. Especially when points are involved.
Seriously though, could it be that Mr. 191 just had an old race number stuck to his shirt and forgot to put a new one on? I kinda believe in people's good side. Which makes it so much easier to take advantage of them. <demonic laughter>

Isn't there a mental institution near there?

I think he is plotting a course from Saratoga Gap to the ocean and took a right turn somewhere.
