Does anyone know if there is somewhere along the Diablo(marathon route) where family could drive to and watch from? Preferably around the 20 mile mark or so? Thanks in advance. Tim

There are several aid stations that make great viewing for spectators, but a couple are earlier on the course than you're interested in.
You can see them go through Juniper Campground at 16.6 miles (although you'll have to park out in the main Juniper Campground and walk in to Camp Site #24). This is a major aid station, and they pass it after climbing back up from the turnaround.
You can also see them at the Summit, 1.6 miles farther along. We'll have a smaller aid station up there and the runners will have only 8 miles to go from there - mostly downhill, but technical and slow. If you've never been on Mt. Diablo, seeing your runner at this aid station will also allow you to check out the views and the visitors' center at the Summit. Parking right at the top is limited, but there's a large parking lot just down the road.
There is no crew/spectator access for the last 8 miles - but, of course, you're welcome to join us at the finish, too, to see your runner come in and share in the post-run food and fun.
See you Sunday!

Sarah, I'm having a pacer join me for the last 8 miles (from the Summit). The web page says that access to the summit closes at sunset, so does that mean if my pacer drives up, then runs to the finish with me (after sunset) we won't be able to get his car? I'm figuring on my pacer meeting me at 11 hours then finishing at 13 hours - so how might we work out his getting to the summit, parking and retrieving a car?

There are a couple of options. Your pacer can catch a ride at the start and hang out on the mountain. Many of us are going up just after the start. He/she can hike up to the summit - about 7 miles, mostly on fireroad for the easiest journey. Or you could post a message on here to see if he/she could catch a ride with a spectator or other pacer at some point.
