I would never want to criticize Sarah and Wendell's very well run web site and it is quite possible I am missing something. However, I have always wondered why there is not an easier way to access past events from the main pctrailsruns.com site. The calendar is great for viewing up coming events, but unless an event is scheduled it seems the only way to access the page is to remember the URL. For example, if I want to look at the Pirates Cove page, it isn't linked on the main page since it is already past for '07 and has yet to be scheduled for '08. However I can go directly to URL: www.pctrailruns.com/Pirates_Cove.htmThis is especially troublesome for events that may no longer be offered. My question is whether this is intentional (i.e. it helps cut down on bandwidth costs) or is this simply something that wasn't designed for due to a perceived lack of interest? -Steve

Steve,
Yes, we're working on having the event pages, with results, available on the web site year 'round. We've been a little reluctant to activate the event pages before the dates are confirmed (typically 6 months before the event.) I think we'll just put "Date Tentative" and not activate registration until things are confirmed. Thanks for your patience. Wendell (PCTR)

This would take a lot more work, but it would be really cool if you had a single results page the had links to all past races. It would also be great to query a runners name and have it return all PCTR events they have participated in.
Just suggestions though. I have no idea how much work it would actually take. I imagine it isn't easy.

Maybe you could find a way to make that line from Peter's page your screensaver, Will. Seriously, you have every right to be proud - that's a tough course! Have a blast Sunday - I won't see you guys, but I know that you and the 50-milers will have fun out at Finley Road! Sarah

Sarah, you're not going to be there on Sunday? Norbert

Oh, Norbert, don't be silly - OF COURSE I'll be there!! I'll be at the start and then head up to Juniper and the Summit before driving back around to the finish line. (Stopping only to pick up...oh, shoot...what was it? Milk? No. Eggs? No. Hmmmm...it couldn't have been bread... What was it??)
I just won't see Will and Ryan, 'cause they'll only be at Rock City and Finley Road aid stations, two places I won't be. They're helping out, not running.
Looking forward to seeing most everyone else on Sunday!
Sarah

Thanks! That makes sense. You're picking up..what? Maybe bananas? Low-fat, sugarless peanut butter-dark chocolate-flavored M&Ms? On another note, I actually would like to run until Finley Road and back to try the 37-miler - will you have a helicopter return service at Rock City? Sure hope so! See you soon! No, I'm picking up POPPY SEED BAGELS, NORBERT!! There, see?!?! Now you've gone and spoiled the surprise for everyone!!
Seriously, if you want to do 37/38 miles, you should follow the 50 mile course and skip the Finley Road loop (when you get to Rock City, follow the course back to the finish). It's a better course for 37 miles, and you don't have to pay the helicopter pilot.

Wow! Thanks for the link, Sarah! Thats even better than the realendurance.com site! I can't believe they have my results going all the way back to 2001 when I first dared to enter an organized event. Not only that, but I just discovered that I have a first place in something! I never realized that I came in first in my age group at Santa Cruz 50K last year! Who cares that there were only 3 people in their 30s in the top 20 of a 33-person field, I still get to cherish seeing a "1" next to my name in some category. Totally made my day!!

Ask and ye shall receive, Steve. Wendell just activated every event for the next 12 months, so you can access the basic info and past results - just not the registration links (which won't be activated until all the details/permits are finalized). Now are you happy? Actually, we're VERY happy to have this done - Wendell has wanted to get them all updated and activated for awhile, but it was quite a bit of work, so he just got it done. Thanks again for your patience! Sarah

Thanks Sarah and Wendell! You guys are the best. Am I happy now,? Very happy. I'm especially happy because, while I don't believe in carbo-loading with a giant pasta meal or some such the night before an event, I do believe in lots of carbo-snacking starting about a day and a half before a big race. Let the munching begin! mmmm... See you at Miwok! -Steve mountain-man-steve.blogspot.com/
