I'm a newbie at the Diablo 50M so have some questions. I am hoping for no surprises with a goal of meeting new people, enjoying the scenery and finishing the race! What would be some good things to pack in the drop bags that I wont already have in my fanny pack or at the aid stations? I hear its going to be very warm there! Are the ribbons easily seen - what are the chances of getting lost? A rhetorical but valid question I would think. What is a good diet to have days leading up to a race like this one? I'm eating whole grains for carbs. Should I eat big meals the day before? Protein? Thanks RobertM

Can I jump in with more questions? 1. Will there be electrolyte capsules at aid stations? Or will you (or the Zombies) have some available for sale? Sorry to ask - I've always just relied on my own supply before, but I just realized I'm all out and it's too late to order more. 2. Are you going to strictly enforce the 2:30 p.m. cut-off for getting into Rock City? I'm doing just 38 so I can take my time, but I'm afraid I may have to hustle somewhat to make that cut-off... So as not to be rude, here are my stabs at answering Robert's questions: 1. I'd put a drop bag at Juniper with a flashlight, any creams or capsules you use, any special drinks or food you like (use an insulated bag). 2. PCTR courses are extremely well-marked, but you still should pay attention for ribbons. Read on the site how they mark turns. 3. Don't worry about it - just eat normally (my opinion). I try to avoid dairy the night before and also avoid eating too late the night before, but that's it.

Yep, we'll have SaltStick caps at the aid stations, and you'll be getting samples of the SaltStick caps in/with your ZombieRunner goodie bags at check-in, too.
I'm sure that you'll be at 24.5 miles in less than 7 1/2 hours, Jenny, but it's irrelevant for you, anyway - that's a cut-off for people to head out on the Finley Road loop to do the whole 50, so you're fine regardless. Whenever you get into Rock City, you can eat and drink and relax and enjoy - and then you're heading for home!
See you Sunday!
Sarah
PS And good job on the answers, too!

I propose a good-night beer at bedtime before the race. That relaxes and feeds at the same time. Seriously!

Also, not every runner will use a drop bag. If you can/want to carry everything you need all day and night (including, most importantly, a flashlight) then you may not need a drop bag.

Hello Sarah and Wendell,
Any chance of Diablo selling out? I'm planning on signing up there on Sunday morning.
Thanks, Adam

Hi Sarah and Wendell, Will the aid stations have some sort of sports gel and bars...I like to save the solid food and candy for after I finish?! Thanks, Caren See the drop bag thread. Sarah said there will be gels, clif bars, and clif blocks. However, don't expect them to last since there will be 160+ runners. Utilize drop bags to ensure you get what you want and need.

Caren, they usually have Clif products(Clifshots, Clifbars,..). You have to ask for the shots at the table, it's not always on display. Sarah mentioned that they have stocked up on those products but might run out late in the 50-Miler. Good luck tomorrow, (say hello when you pass me on the uphill ) Norbert

It may be too late for me to respond, too - you'll all be running before too long! But if you MUST have gels or bars, you should carry them or put them in your drop bags. All the aid stations will have something at the start - be we have over 160 people running tomorrow.
See you bright and early!
