Looks like the camp sites at POINT MUGU SP are already filled and hotels/motels are WAY to over priced.
Anyone have suggestions on "close" camping for the night of the 17th

You could try Oxnard or Camarillo, but I just realized that the Oxnard Strawberry Festival is that weekend, and not sure how much pressure that puts on local lodging.
There's also Leo Carillo State Park, which has camping, not far away from Pt Mugu State Park.

I have the same problem. I am going to either stay at the Malibu RV park or in the WalMart parking lot in Oxnard area, or some other option like that.

There is also a Youth Hostel in Santa Monica for 32.00. It is about an hour drive from the race....or maybe less time. Under 30 miles.

Will be coming from San Diego. rwally don't want to make a 4 hour drive before the race but it is looking like that is my only option. Thanks for the options |

There are also some cheaper motels in Oxnard. That is 15 miles from the start.

Their on line site is broken
I called them
sounded like they had more
It is "Walk in" for the camping (meaning you can't park right next to your tent)

Regarding hotels: Hampton Inn in Camarillo on West Daily Drive is nice & just off Las Posas road, which is about 7 miles from the coast, 14 miles at most from the race start! There is also Days Inn in Camarillo on Daily drive. Same distance to race start. Oxnard has a couple of hotels that are nice; Best Western on Oxnard Blvd or Courtyard by Marriot at Vineyard & the 101. Otherwise be careful staying in Oxnard, some hotels have hourly rates. Don't get me wrong, I live in Oxnard & love my community! (carefully!)
