Wow – thanks to all of you for coming out and for making Saturday at Lake Merritt so much fun! What with the beautiful weather, spectacular venue, and all the fun runners, helpers, crew, and friends and family who attended on Saturday, this was our most fun inaugural event ever! For many of you, this was your ‘inaugural’, too – your first time at a fixed-time event – and we hope that you had a good experience and enjoyed the social, loop, go-as-you-want format.
And we hope, too, that each of you is happy with and proud of your accomplishments out there, whether you were shooting for a mileage goal, trying to find a run/walk strategy that worked for you, focusing on eating and hydrating well, or simply intent on being out on the course for the allotted time. Speaking of accomplishments, five of the 6-hour runners completed a 50 Km or more, and four of the 12-hour runners ran at least 100 Km around the lake. And it really did appear that everyone had a good time – as we noted afterward, even the people who were throwing up were having fun!

Our next fixed-time event is the very popular San Francisco One Day in October, when we have 12- and 24-hour events. This race is held at beautiful Crissy Field right near downtown San Francisco and right on the shore of the San Francisco Bay, with absolutely incredible views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, the Palace of Fine Arts, and the city skyline. We hope that you consider giving this 1-mile loop a try in the fall – the smaller loop makes for even more interaction with other runners and helpers, and your friends and family can enjoy themselves at the event and in San Francisco while you run.
As for the Lake Merritt Half Day, we plan to hold the 2nd annual race next April 19th on Earth Day. It would be great to see some of you out there again next year, running around beautiful Lake Merritt, racking up the miles.
Thanks again for coming out on Saturday, and hope we see you out on the trails (or loops) again soon!
Wendell & Sarah
