First congrats to the success of the inaugural Lake Merritt Half Day. I did not run the event but always enjoyed reading results and reports - Lake Merritt Half Day - Results. I guess I'll have a chance to do it next year as it's planned to be on 4/19/08. Since the pretty Lake Merritt is close to Bart station, I'm excited to know that I can take BART without driving on the Earth Day! I'm thinking if there is a date for Diablo 50M. Will it be a week after - 4/26/08? So far I'm fine with weekly ultras, but hopefully they won't be at the same weekend as other ultra's such as AR50 or Ruth Anderson. Best, Chihping

The 19th Street station is about 3/4 mile walk from the Start/Finish.

How cool, Jon - good for you!! And now I'm even MORE glad that your wife and friends showed up - you might have fogged up the windows on the whole BART car on your way home! How was the movie? Sarah

Sarah Loooong! Four different story lines dragging on at the same time. The movie was actually only 2.5 hours, but felt much longer. The ice bath at midnight did the trick and I was able to play in the flag football game on Sunday.

Oh, man...did you stay awake for the whole thing?!
Glad that the ice bath helped so that you could do complete your weekend triathlon - run/movie/football. Which was the hardest leg?
Congrats, once again, on your fine run, Jon - you really looked fresh out there all day long.

I wouldn't say the movie was the hardest, but definitely the one leg I would remove if I were to do it over again. What can I say? I'm good at faking it? It's easy to put on a smile for two minutes every lap. Keeping that smile for a weekend with the in-laws would be an incredible feat. (just kidding, they're great people)

To answer your initial question, Chihping, Wendell has just finished updating the 2008 calendar through the end of April - through the tentative Diablo event date.
Time to start planning! ;D
Sarah
PS And thanks for your Lake Merritt congrats, Chihping - maybe we'll see you doing loops someday!!

Thanks Sarah. I was just a little excited in planning, but I will give it a try on the fixed time events.
I think doing loops in urban paths is more fun than 400m track.. The course and the scene may not change much at every loop, but there are a lot of other things going on lively as part of urban life - streets, pedestrians, traffic, daylights, etc. In particular, I love to observe everything happening around me. Also this makes time fly by FAST!

Yep, I agree, Chihping - I'm not sure how long I'd last going around a 400 meter track. Did you read Adrian's comment on another Lake Merritt thread? This is how I usually feel at fixed-time events: "I really couldn't believe how time went by so fast during the 12 Hour. Given that one saw the sun rise and set, each loop was more interesting than the last. I'm not sure why that's the case, but some of it can be attributed to the great volunteers (as always) and the particularly nice weather."Hope you do decide to try one someday! Sarah
