If anyone has any interest, I've finally finished putting together my race report for the marathon Warning: its a bit long! But there's a good amount of pictures in it, and lots of enthusiasm! addygrl.blogspot.com/2007/05/race-miles-0-6.htmlI had just a wonderful time at the event and couldn't be happier about how it turned out, even though It took me over 9 hours Thanks again Sarah and Wendell, and all the wonderful volunteers for a great day! What a WONDERFUL report, Addy!! I am SO impressed that you and Chihping are able to remember so much detail. And all the photos - EVERYONE got such great pictures!!
And you really did such a great job out there!! You and Terry finished so strong - Wendell and I were just thrilled to see you cross the finish line. (And what a great friend you have in Terry - that's fabulous that he ran with you all day.) It is so rewarding for us when people cross the line having reached a significant goal and having had fun doing it...and you were one of the people who really epitomized that on Sunday, Addy. Great job!!
As I've told so many people, one of the things that I like about running on Mt. Diablo is that, no matter where else I run, I know that it's highly unlikely I'll run on anything as technical or difficult. That is just how you should feel going up to the Tahoe Rim Trail - while you'll be at altitude, the terrain and grade won't be nearly as tough as what you've already done. Hope that's a real confidence builder for you!
As for your pack, you may want to try some other waist packs if that one's not working well for you. You can try adjusting, as Terry wisely suggests, but sometimes a pack just doesn't fit a person well. I never have found a two-bottle pack that I like, so I usually use a one-bottle pack and a handheld bottle for everything but the longest unaided runs - for those, I use a hydration pack. Anyway, it's worth trying different things to see what works best.
Shoot - my comments are going to be the same length as your race report if I don't stop soon. A final congrats to you, Addy. Hope that you continue to be very, very proud of yourself - not just for your finish but also for your enthusiasm and willingness to reach for some difficult goals.
