I'm from the UK and I'm going to be travelling around California for a week at the end of August. I'd really like to do the Redwood event on the 26th but I'm meant to be in Monterey the night of the 25th. Will this be ok? Someone told me it would be about 2 hours to drive that Sunday morning.
Also: will it sell out quickly? How tough is it? I have done loads of 20km races here in England but also aim to go hiking in Yosemite the week after the race so would prefer to have a little energy left when I get there! Is it really hot in August? Any other advice?

Redwood is a great run.It is beautiful and was my official first trail event.I hold it dear to me,I found the 30K last year fairly easy EXCEPT the switchbacks after you finish the first loop and have to do another going the oppisate way.......man they were killer on the legs.Lots of fast hiking hehehe.I will out there doing the 50K this year.
I recall the weather last Aug being hot at times, but nothing unbearable. This year may be different.
I am sure Sarah can help you with the rest of your questions.

I would say that 2 hours is reasonable but that 2 1/2 is safer. I can drive to where you will be in about 2.5 and I am about 30 minutes south of Redwoods. I am told I drive slow is why I think "2" might be a reasonable estimate. It's a gorgeous run. Hope you can make it.

ultragirl,
Those steep switchbacks were added last year due to bridge construction on Stream trail. The original course is now open and we won't have to go up the switchbacks.
