Hello there, fellow runners - I am going to attempt the HH this August and as a base of operations I've chosen the Marine Headlands Hostel norcalhostels.org/marin which is about a mile or so away from the start. I've got reservations for a private (2 bed) room for the nights of Aug 10 and Aug 11. It's not very luxurious and there are no restaurants close by, but you can't get a bed any closer to the start. My girlfriend is coming up on Saturday to volunteer and pace me through the last 25 miles (powers-that-be willing) and we figured it might be advantageous to just have one car up there, due to the fact that a runner's broken body after a first time 100 mile attempt is not all that well suited to driving a stick-shift down to Mountain View. So here's the offer: I'll trade a ride from the South Bay (or ideally Mountain View) for the great value of sharing a room with me pre-race (yay!) and accomodation in same room for a crew member for the night of the 11th to 12th. Hoping this will look like a great deal - Harry

Actually, that IS a great deal, Harry! We already have a few runners coming to HH from down your way, and I'm sure that there will be more as the day nears.
Good luck with your car pooling - it's a great idea and a great deal, as you say.

Wow Harry, you are seriously organized. I haven't even figured out what I'm doing for TRT50 yet, let alone HH100! While I don't live strictly in the South Bay, I may be able to take you up on this if nobody else does as Mt. View is a straight shot from where I live. As I understand it you only need a ride to the hostel, correct? I'd hate for you to have to wait for me to finish in order to go home :-).
By the way, one downside of that place is that you have it on the 11th which means there will be a nice warm bed just a mile away when you are at the 75mile aid station. That might be a little too tempting!

Wow Harry, you are seriously organized. Meh, that's about the only thing in my life that's organized... You're on. Correct, only a ride to the Hostel. We can work out transportation details later. (I could take Caltrain to San Mateo if you're going to take 101) At mile 75 I probably won't remember my name, let alone where I'm staying. At least, that's what I'm counting on! h
