Just curious to know what the aid stations will be like. How far will they be spaced? Also, I consider myself a middle of the pack runner so time wise.....would you have any suggestions? I'm probably going so sign up for the 50 sometime this week. Not ready for 100's yet. I'm going to do a 24 track fun run in late Oct. so I'll play with the mileage then. When I did Montana de Oro I wasn't prepared. Didn't drink early enough, so my dehydration caught up to me. I ended going so slow on those last loops that I ended up being away from aid for close to 2hrs. with only two handhelds. So I'm trying to figure distance/time If I should use two handhelds or hydration pack. Thanks ....Ted

Hi, Ted - The aid station information is on the Headlands Hundred page: www.pctrailruns.com/HH_Aid_Stations.htmYou can see the distances between aid stations on the chart. Except for at the start, the longest distance between aid stations is 6.7 miles between Pantoll and Bolinas Ridge, which is the turnaround for the 50. You can ask anyone who's done Miwok how this section is and how long it took them, 'cause it's identical to a section on the way to the Miwok turnaround. Also, MdO 50 Km has 6,400 feet of climb and the whole 50 miles at Headlands will have only ~7,500. I think you'll notice the difference in the difficulty, steepness, and length of climbs at Headlands. Looking forward to seeing you out there!! Sarah

Thanks Sarah!, I noticed that there are a lot of combined courses in this run...Miwok, Pirates Cove...now Headlands Hundred!! I've never been in that area and have only heard GREAT things about the trails/weather. I figure it's about time to experience it for myself. Thanks again....Ted

Lets see, I did Pirates Cove and Miwok and am signed up for the Headlands 100. Guess I should comment on this one :-). I have pretty high hydration requirements and I got by with only two bottles (1-26oz, 1-20oz) without problems (actually, I ran the first 20 miles with only one bottle, but that's another story). The section between Bolinas and Pantoll can be a bit warm as it is fairly exposed along the ridge. However, the warm sections are pretty flat and most of the climbing is in the deep woods and isn't all that much anyway. Normally, I only drain 2 full bottles if I am running beyond 20 miles and there is 7+ miles between aid. There are, of course, exceptions like if it is warm and I am running 2500+ft in 5.1 miles up the side of Mt. Diablo after only 15.5 miles
