This is my first 50k, and I was wondering if anyone had any tips about the course, and how to dress for the weather? It looks like it will be in the high 40's when we start - should I just wear what I'm planning to wear the whole course, or start with gloves/layers and discard them? Can I pick them up later? Also - is the course mostly in tree shade or does it get exposed and sunny in parts? Thanks!

The course is mostly shaded by redwoods. Hope that helps.

Beautiful course with a redwood canopy, a few fairly brief exposed parts scattered throughout. It will be low 40s at the start, so gloves/sleeves are recommended. The first hour of the race is uphill, so you'll warm up soon enough. The first aid station is about 5 min up the hill past the entrance to the park (where the start is), so picking up stuff later should work if you wanted to drop. The outlook looks good, so it will warm into the 50's by 11-12, so it should be a great day for running!

I tend to run warm, so I may go without sleeves, and I'm sure I'll go without gloves.
I'm not sure what sider meant (since the first aid station is 9.7K after the start -- far more than 5 minutes), but he might have meant that you can leave something at the start/finish and pick it up after you finish. Officially PCTR cannot promise to keep it safe, but I have heard that they have never had anything stolen.
Nice choice for a first 50K. My fastest two 50Ks are on this course, though I'm still recovering from the One Day so I will be doing a shorter distance this time.

That would be a fast run indeed! Sorry, I meant that the first aid station is a 5 min drive up Kings Mountain road past the entrance to Huddart Park.
