I did my 2nd trail run, 21K at santa cruz. How is the pacifica run compared to this one?
my first was skyridge, and it wasn't bad at all. Santa cruz kicked my butt! I'm not use to having to run down soo many hills.
I signed up for pacifica run too. Am I in for another beating?
Any tips on how I can train for running down hill?

Train for running down hill by running down hill. Ouch. I know, it hurts, but keep doing it and you will get better :>

Ditto katemojo! There was a time when running downhill was SO MUCH harder than the uphill. Keep doing it though. I remember not long ago saying, "I'm getting better at running downhill." And as I said it out loud, it sounded kind of strange. But to those who have to do it, it just sounds right. Trust us on this one.

yes it does hurt more at times.I find myslef thinking "please can I climb a hill already?" or maybe that is because I walk all steep up's lol
it actually bothers my knee going downhill.

Yep, Pacifica delivers a proper butt-kicking. Remember how the downhills yesterday in Santa Cruz were broken up by plenty of short uphills? You won't have much at all of that as you come down from the North Peak. However, it's so worth it! The views from the North Peak stretch from nearly Santa Cruz all the way up past the Marin Headlands to Point Reyes! You'll pass through a wide variety of ecosystems as you make your way between the start/finish and the peak, on a bunch of different surfaces (everything but pavement!). I did that run earlier this year, and would love to do it again this time, but I'll be out of town. Have a great time!!! - Fred (looking forward to Angel Island)

I've always loved running downhill and have had to practice and struggle to imiprove my climbing, but it seems that the people who are most successful at and least sore after running downhill are those who are able to stay relaxed and comfortable, who run down without braking constantly, and who are able to stay balanced - not leaning back but, rather, keeping the body perpendicular to the running surface. And, with both going up and down, everyone who's posted here is right - practice makes...well, maybe not 'perfect', but certainly better! And as Fred mentions, Pacifica definitely has longer downhill and uphill sections, and more total elevation change, than Santa Cruz Mountains. Sarah (PCTR)

Haven't done Santa Cruz, but I can confirm that Pacifica is a nightmare. It's a bably Diablo. Each climb is not as bad, but have fun passing the start/finish 4 times before the real finish.
