Thank you for the responses regarding the Pacifica trail, I'll definitely spend one of my free evenings on that trail. I will be staying in Sonoma and was wondering if there are any other "epic" trails within and hour or two of Sonoma that a east coast guy needs to hit in California.

Not super close to Sonoma, but within your guidelines of "an hour or two", is the Dipsea Trail. The Dipsea Race is the oldest trail race in the US, and definitely qualifies as "epic"... it starts in Mill Valley and ends in Stinson Beach.

I second the recommendation for Annadel. It is a gorgeous park with fabulous terrain. Many miles of trails. It is in east Santa Rosa not far from Sonoma. Enjoy!
