Can anyone recommend a good hotel for the Sequoia run? I would like to stay under $150.00 a night, but I prefer to be near the start line.

Depending on what "near starting line" constitutes, I highly recommend the Hotel Durant. It's about 10 minutes driving from the starting line near the Cal campus. The hotel is devoted to the history of the school with great attention to detail. Most importantly, it has very, very comfortable beds. Also, lots of great food options nearby.
I'm not sure how many other hotels you will find in the Oakland/Berkeley hills, since it's a fairly residential area
