Hi all,
I've been getting to PCTR events by public transit for several years, and for a large number of the runs this way of getting there is a safe and timely experience. Most PCTR start/finish locations can be reached by transit, however in some cases the buses don't run quite early enough on a weekend to make it before the 8:30 am start. Fortunately, for the two upcoming runs, the trip is quite easy and the bus will get you there with a few minutes to spare. I'm happy to share my experience, and will be glad to answer questions you may have.
To get to Pacifica:
1. Take BART to Daly City. The most convenient train leaves SF Civic Center station at 6:35, arrives DC at 6:49 (starting in Pittsburg/Bay Point). The next train (from Dublin/Pleasanton, Civic Center at 6:46, DC at 6:59) will also make it, but you have to know where the bus stop is at DC station because
2. SamTrans bus 110 leaves Daly City BART at 7:00 am (usually on time or 1--2 minutes late). Take it all the way to the end of the line at Linda Mar at 7:32. Fare is $1.50.
3. Get breakfast, coffee, supplies, etc. at Linda Mar shopping center. There is a Safeway, a Starbucks, and several pastry/coffee places. Then take SamTrans bus 14. It is usually physically the same bus that came to Linda Mar as #110. It leaves Linda Mar at 7:55 and will get to Oddstad and Terra Nova at 8:11. The fare is another $1.50. Ask the driver for the stop right after Terra Nova.
4. Walk 700 m to the start: www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1080023
For Angel Island:
1. Take Golden Gate Transit bus 70 from San Francisco (leaves Civic Center Plaza, McAllister & Polk, at 6:38 am; there are other stops in the SOMA, on Van Ness, and on Lombard along Highway 101). Pay $3.60, take a transfer. Get off in Marin City. There may be a Burger King open there at that time, but probably not much else. GGT very much dislikes food and coffee on their non-commute buses.
2. Take Golden Gate Transit bus 19 from Marin City at 7:15 to Tiburon Ferry at 7:38. Use the transfer.
3. Pick up you registration packet and board the event ferry at 7:50 am.
For the return trip, ask 511.org or me for directions, or find a ride with fellow runners---it's usually much easier for the return trip.
