Last year it was ridiculously hot, though I think that would be pretty rare. I actually dropped at 25K due to dizziness.
I forget the grade since the heat dominates my memory of the day, though I think there were some steep bits.

Averages don't mean anything. And steep is a relative term, but...
The predicted high on race day is in the low 70's. Most of the course is shaded, but there are a couple of sections which aren't and we'll feel much warmer (in chaparell on south facing slopes with light colored soil).
For the most part, the grade isn't bad. I don't remember a steep part lasting over 100 yards.
Between 17 and 21 miles on the 50 KM course you'll have 2 groups of a couple of steep ups and downs each of 40 to 80 yards. Imagine a roller coaster track. There is a brief steep section of downhill in the first 6 miles that is a bit steep and there should be some around Berry Creek Falls (around 24 miles?).
