Running my first 50k.Has anyone ran Salt Point before? Is there any unusual terrain I should train for (eg sand, mud, rocks)? Been running 10 to 16m trails for past few months and doing 4 20m runs between Jul 1st and 15. Also, the site recommends carrying 20oz of water. Do you guys carry water bottles or use other devices such as fanny packs or hydration backpacks? Thanks

I ran it last year, its a great run, mostly runable, when you get down to the coast there a few rocks to climb over, thats about all. I was mostly taking in the view and smiling. Just keep an eye on the ribbons, I missed a turn since I was looking at the ocean and added a few miles.

Hi,
agreed, the coast section is a bit technical, but not too long - no big deal.
As for hydration, I use a hydration backpack - however bottles are faster to refill and also allow you to keep track of your fluid intake more easily (I'm going to try to get used to bottles for shorter races). I'd say do what you're used to, with backpack possibly being the easiest choice if you're not usually carrying anything (use body glide around your shoulders/neck to avoid chafing). For a 50k I strongly recommend to carry water for sure, given you'll suffer greatly if you let yourself get dehydrated too much. Also don't forget salt tablets or salty food (they have all that at the aid stations).
One thing: the drive is quite long, and will take you pretty much the time that yahoo maps tells you (the drive from 101 to Jenner is narrow, windy and with few possibilities to overtake).
Have Fun, Beat
