Is it possible to put gpx or kml (Google Earth) files on the PCTR website for the race courses, so that those of us who use GPS watches and/or Google Earth could have a look at the course in advance and set up our watches accordingly?

We are looking into that, adding files of both formats to supplement the race course maps and descriptions in the future.

While not a solution immediately prior to an upcoming run, why don't you enlist a few volunteers (signed up runners) who have GPS watches to send you a gpx file after the run so you can have it (and post it) the next time you do the course? Given the fairly widespread use of GPS systems these days, gpx files or Google Earth's kml files are to some as topo maps are to others. Being able to 'see' the course ahead of time may encourage more people unfamiliar with an area to come out and run.

Certainly! In the course of the next few months we are planning on getting the data and putting it up on the website for each of our courses. You should be able to use this data with your GPS software. Some data would not be attainable due to heavy forest canopy, such as the 10k loop at Redwood Park Trail Run.

Excellent! It'll be nice to have another way to preview the course. What I like to look for are landmarks, open terrain, roads/streams, major terrain changes, trail type/width, and just the overall course area. It's not all that scientific but it helps a bit to decide on the race, and helps a bit more when running it. Thanks.
