I ran Pacifica (july) last year and it must have been the height of yellow jacket season then, since everyone seemed to be getting attacked, and I got bit several times every loop. It was very painful, and I decided to cut it short and stop at 30K, and not do the full 50k.
Any update on how active the yellow jackets are this year? Like the skyline to sea race, maybe this race should be moved to another time of year when the yellow jackets are less active.

I've run this 5 or 6 times both in January and July. Last year was the only time I recall there being a widespread problem. With that said, I'm hoping the little buggers stay "grounded" this year

Ouch! I guess I got lucky, finishing the 50K last year (and the year before) with no stings. The only time I've been stung at a PCTR event was the first Skyline to the Sea.
I tend to be towards the back of the pack, which is usually worse, though maybe by the time we all got to the Hazelnut loop we were spread out enough to not matter. Did you get stung on North Peak too?

I've only been sting once or twice at Pacifica. My worst experience by far was at Big Basin. I'm not sure that there's much that we can do about yellow jackets. I don't think DEET does much good. Permethrin repellent is supposed to work for treating your clothes.
