Pacific Coast Trail Runs is SUPER excited that it looks as if the measurements worked out for a new and improved 25 mile loop for Headlands Hundred - utilizing Alta, SCA, and Coastal once again!! If the park approves the new course, Charles gets to work what is possibly PCTR's coolest aid station!!
Details to follow once we get approval from the park, which should be later today.

Can't wait! I'm trying to imagine where this new AS will be... On top of SCA?!?! I would be happy to help hike in supplies on Thursday if needed.

Nope, it's actually at the end (or beginning, I guess, depending on how you look at it) of Coastal Trail in the parking lot that's right at the end of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Keep your fingers crossed!

Please make a note of where the stations with drop bags are - I know that must sound obvious, but as a first-time 100-mile runner I am anxious to see the chart or other information on how far apart the drop bags will be so I can start planning.
Thanks for all your hard work on this course and race!

Yes, Sarah, I am excited that we'll get to use Alta/SCA/Coastal! The views are so spectacular and it will be nice to get more single track. Thank you!
One more question: will we use (hopefully) last year's route from Rodeo Beach to TV? Or the steep/scree stretch that we used for this year's 50?

Is there any update on the course or permitting? This race is now 1.5 weeks away, and I'm still unable to establish meeting times and places for pacers, crew, and family because we don't have all the details. It might be easy for more experienced runners to go-with-the flow for something like this, but this is my first 100 mile race and I picked it given the scenery, proximity to home and well-run race but onto by PCTR in the past. In addition to all the training, I obviously want to be very prepared, and I am getting increasingly concerned about the organization and planning for this race. I think some re-assurance to registered entrants (eventhough we still can't see who they are) that all pertinent details will be worked out in short order would be appreciated.

Matt - Eventhough I am a slightly more experienced 100 mile runner, I am having the exact same concerns about this race. It is very concerning that we are 10 days away from race day and still we have no established route. I also agree that past PCTR races have been very well organized, however, this was not the case in the Headlands 50 which I ran two weeks ago. That race had the same issues that I'm worried about with this 100 miler: little pre-race communication, poorly stocked aid stations, over-worked volunteers, and basic low level race support. A 100 mile race is difficult even when it is well organized and supported. I'm wondering if there is a possiblity that the Headlands 100 will be canceled this year. Can PCTR give us some feed back on that possiblity?

If there is even a slight chance of cancellation, I would appreciate knowing this ASAP so I can book another 100 the same weekend -- I have trained six months for this event (my first 100) and raised over $1,300 for a homeless youth non-profit in San Francisco (At The Crossroads) from donors who have every expectation that I will be attempting to run 100 miles on August 7-8. If HH is not to be then I will look elsewhere, but I will need confirmation regarding the race by 5:00PM Friday 7/30 to feel comfortable remaining committed to this race - - please confirm.
I too have enjoyed many PCTR races in the past and usually been impressed with the high level of organization and good atmosphere, so sincerely hope this race will happen.

I have faith in race organizers and am glad to hear enthusiasm from others on these boards and in past years race reports, but I have to agree that for those of us first timers, these details are needed, and the sooner the better - race organizers, how about a heads-up on when the course details will be posted?
I'm looking forward to the race and want to feel sure of my race plan and the course, to make it even better!

Has the course been determined yet. There are many first time runners wondering the logistics of the course. Please let the runners now as soon as you do.
thank you so much

Sorry, all - there is no risk of cancellation. Rather, we want to have the best course possible, and that entails re-measuring and getting approval for some very cool singletrack. If the new course (without the technical Wolf Ridge or the somewhat boring Bobcat) is approved tomorrow, we'll have the maps, crew directions, and aid station info available right away. No matter what, drop bags will only be at Tennessee Valley and the start/finish at Rodeo Beach.

I'm boosting my own supplies overall, but can we expect improvement in the aid stations given several stories at recent races about them being poorly stocked? I can't think of anything more critical for a 100 mile race than to know there will be the proper food, drinks, etc. at aid stations when coming through in the middle of the night.
