Humidity? What's that?!? I'm from California :-)
Favorite quote: "Sure, it's 135-degrees in Badwater, but its a DRY heat"

That is so kind of you Sarah, always thinking of your runners lol Well, we can't turn on the A/C, but we'll take most of the humidity out of the air so it should be an improvement over Georgia heat... Sarah

Any idea if Dean Karnazes will be there this year?
Also, I'm signed up for the 25k. Is there an option to change from the 25k to the 50k on raceday (like after I've done one loop)?
Thanks
Jason

We haven't received an entry from Dean as of 5/16/07. Yep, you can sign up for the 25 Km and opt to go back out for a second loop after you finish one, if you'd like, and then pay us the difference when you're done. It's much more common, though, to do the opposite. Sarah

Yep, last Fall Diablo run seem to have many people drop from 50k to 25k!
Bit of advice...MAKE SURE YOU HAVE TWO WATER BOTTLES!!!
I'll be there if I'm not camping up at the Russian River...and if my IT Band will let me go down that "hill".

This is actually going to be my first ever trail run event so bear with me on some more questions.
I spoke with a friend who has done this run numerous times over the years and he made a comment about the downhill. He said if the course takes you on the single track downhill it's brutal. If the race director opts for the firetrail downhill it's far more forgiving. Will the downhill follow the single track or fire trail? Apparently, this event in the past has done it both ways.

Good point. I ran both 25k events last year and always came down on the fire roads (which is brutal enough ) Sarah, does the 50k do the two loops in the same direction? Thanks, Norbert

Yep, both loops of the 50 Km go up the singletrack Back Creek Trail and come down the fireroad.
Wendell and I actually prefer the opposite direction - coming down Back Creek is one of our favorites - but it's much looser and more technical, so the bulk of the runners have told us over the years that they prefer to come down the fireroad...so we gave in.
It's definitely an easier descent this way - you can kind of relax and recover, especially the last few miles, which are darn near flat.

Sarah, I respectfully disagree with the statement you can kind of relax and recover, especially the last few miles Norbert

Actually, Wendell and I ran that very section today and we BOTH thought that very thing, Norbert. Perhaps you're hurrying too much to get to the chili and bread... Sarah

I doesn't typically sell out way in advance, but things have been selling out this year that have never sold out before - so now I never say 'never'!! If it's starting to get close, watch this message board for udpates. Hope you can make it on the 2nd! Sarah
