I am definately leaving a drop bag at the start/finish for after the second loop.Oooo I am getting so excited. OH and nervous too of course.
I also have to agree that even though 8K is not far, when you are going uphill it might as well be 25k LOL atleast it feels that way.

I'm very easy to recognize: Tall, yet too fat for an ultra-runner, heavy accent (like the governor's.. I come from the same area he was born), and chewing mostly on bread and bagels after the race!

Mt. Diablo will definitely be a challenge as a first trail run, but trial by fire is always best in my opinion. Are you doing the 25K or 50K? I've never run in Phoenix, but I have done some good trails further south in Tucson and there was plenty of challenging climbs down there if you are ever down that way. As for Diablo, I think you should just hope for warm temps so you can watch all us Northern Californians melt as you enjoy what is (for you) moderate weather. Yeah, the heat I think I can deal with, cause 80 degrees is nothing, it's been in the 100's out here since April, but we are cooling down..which is great. Tucson is a nice place to run. I look forward to meeting some of y'all...looks like being on the entrant list I'm the youngest gun running the 25km. LOL. Oh slwrunner, what part of Georgia are you from? I'm originally from Georgia, but I'm in the Air Force now and am stationed here in Phoenix.

Cool Brad. You doing the 50? There are an awful lot of names I recognize on that list including a few speedsters. That Abbs couple right there on top are fairly notable. I don't recognize all the names, but I don't know that there are any women who will be able to challenge Beverley. Heck, there aren't many men who can Just signed up. I'll be there too! -Brad

I'm starting to recognize a lot of names and remember a lot of faces...but not necessarily the names and faces at the same time! I may opt to only do 1 loop if my ITB starts to act up. It's only three weeks before I do my run across Iowa and this isn't exactly the correct training!
